The youngest fundraisers in town are making a big impact! The three kindergarten classes at Wiltse Elementary School and the PAC have raised an impressive $1,000 for the South Okanagan Similkameen (SOS) Medical Foundation, specifically supporting the Oncology Centre Upgrade at Penticton Regional Hospital.
The heartwarming initiative was inspired by six-year-old Lyla, whose fundraising efforts last year raised over $8,000 for the local oncology clinic in honour of her cousin. Moved by Lyla’s dedication, the kindergarten students rolled up their sleeves and hosted a bake sale, selling homemade treats to help improve cancer care in their community.
The students raised an incredible $800 through their bake sale, and the Wiltse Elementary School PAC generously contributed an additional $200, bringing the total donation to $1,000.
“These incredible young students remind us that generosity has no age limit,” said Ian Lindsay, CEO at the SOS Medical Foundation. “Their kindness and effort will directly contribute to enhanced cancer care for patients and families in the South Okanagan Similkameen.”
The funds raised by the kindergarteners will go toward much-needed upgrades for the Oncology Centre at Penticton Regional Hospital set to open this summer, ensuring that patients in the South Okanagan Similkameen receive the best possible care close to home.
The SOS Medical Foundation extends a heartfelt thank you to the students, teachers, families, and everyone who supported the bake sale. The spirit of giving is alive and well at Wiltse Elementary!
