Thanks to your generous contributions, the SOS Medical Foundation successfully acquired a cutting-edge ultrasound machine for the Renal Unit at Penticton Regional Hospital.

Your support has made a significant impact on enhancing healthcare services in our community. “The ultrasound is a visualization tool; it is used in mapping of vessels in order to plan/prepare for fistula creation when a patient is newly starting dialysis. Using ultrasound improves patient outcomes: it protects from damaging the access, it supports less painful needling, and decreases fear and anxiety of patients. It also facilitates earlier usage of new fistulas, which gets patients started on life-saving dialysis sooner and decreases their symptom burden. All of the South Okanagan is served at PRH in-centre dialysis and outpatient chronic kidney disease clinics (Princeton – Osoyoos – Summerland and everywhere in between). Having the appropriate equipment allows staff to provide care that they can feel good about. Being satisfied that care provision is at the highest level facilitates retention and mental well-being. The depth of impact you have cannot be articulated, thank you”. -Jesse Colbeck, Manager, Clinical Operations, South Okanagan Renal Operation
